If your study or living room in Dubai gets the sun by mid-afternoon, bamboo blinds suit it and keep the window looking natural. You raise one by rolling or folding its split bamboo or reed. Steam and grease spoil it, so it doesn't belong by a shower or a hob. We come and measure at no charge.

Winds round a tube above the window, so only a fine, flexible weave suits it.
A roll-up bamboo blind's roll rests in loops of cord, and a Roman fold rises on cords at its back. Health Canada's 2008 warning named both as a strangulation risk to young children. A bamboo roller has neither. We fit child-safe controls on request, so tell us at the visit that a child sleeps here.
If lines of sun cross your laptop screen in the afternoon, the weave is too open for a desk. A close weave keeps the daylight but dims those lines on the screen.
On a balcony, a bamboo blind shows from outside, so ask the building management first. Outdoors, an untied blind swings in the wind, and full sun turns bamboo brittle sooner than indoors. We make bamboo blinds for covered balconies, terraces and pergolas.
An open weave and a close one are different blinds, and so are a roll-up and a Roman fold. Ask every shop to name the weave, the lift and the control, and whether the price covers fitting.

In the evening an open bamboo weave hides little: a neighbour in a facing flat sees your lit room through the gaps. By day it lets in thin lines of light.
A close weave of fine reed softens the daylight. After dark it hides more, though a lit room still glows through and someone near a lamp can show as a shadow.
A lined curtain drawn across the bamboo at night hides the room; a blackout one also darkens a bedroom at sunrise. By day it stacks aside, and the bamboo filters the sun.
Judge each window, not the room: in a kitchen-diner, bamboo can hang by the table but not over the hob.

Match the control to whoever uses the window. We make bamboo blinds in several weaves and lifts, and a single blind can be up to 250 cm wide.
The pull cord
Raises the blind from one side; suits a room only adults use.
A loop at one side raises the blind; left loose, it hangs within a child's reach.
Raise it at the bottom bar. No cord hangs, though a roll-up or Roman fold has cords behind.
Where bamboo won't do: a roller that wipes clean for a shower room, curtains and blinds for kitchens by the hob. A busy sliding door takes vertical blinds. For tilting slats, see wooden blinds; for fabric folds, Roman blinds.

Send a photo of every window, with the hour the sun reaches it. Mention a home desk or a nursery. Add your move-in date, if there is one.

Work starts once you approve the quote, with the sizes we took at your home. Your blinds are fitted 3 working days later; a big or complicated job takes longer.
We fix the blinds in place, and you raise and lower each one before we leave. Each window's weave and lift, and the control for whoever raises it, are choices you make with us at your free home visit.

The starting price of a bamboo blind in Dubai follows its width and height; the calculator above turns them into an estimate. Our starting rate is 400 per square metre of blind, making and fitting included, with a 2 m² minimum. Your choices set the final price, and scaffolding for a double-height window is charged separately.
Chick is a South Asian word for a screen of split bamboo or reed hung in a doorway or on a veranda. In a Dubai shop, chick blinds usually means a roll-up bamboo blind: ask which weave and control it has.
Gaps in the weave let sun, and its heat, through a bamboo blind, more through an open weave than a close one. On west glass, leave a close-woven one down all afternoon: it cuts the direct sun but won't cool the room.
Lower a bamboo blind fully and go over the slats, top to bottom, with the brush attachment of a vacuum. A cloth wrung almost dry takes off a mark. Avoid soaking it, because wet slats can warp and wet strings can stretch.
Sun and damp are the risks for natural bamboo, so ask any maker which parts are covered, for how long. Our warranty covers each of these for 2 years: the making, the headrail's parts and our fitting. A colour change from the sun isn't covered.
