Sheer curtains in Dubai for daytime privacy

White sheer curtains drawn across a Dubai living-room window, the tower opposite softened behind them

Sheer curtains

The daytime layer by the glass

Made to measure in our workshop

Price on visit

If your Dubai flat looks straight into the tower opposite, sheer curtains let the daylight in and blur the view into your room by day. The fine, see-through fabric softens strong sun, and you still see out. Once your lights go on at night, the neighbours see in. We measure at your home, and the visit is free.

What makes a sheer curtain hang well?

Two details decide how a sheer hangs: a weave heavy enough to drape, and folds of one even size.

Wave-heading sheer on a ceiling track, every fold the same size

The folds

A heavier voile hangs in round, steady folds; a fine chiffon in looser ones. Hold both against your glass.

  1. 1 Carriers

Linked at a fixed spacing, so every wave fold is the same size.

  2. 2 Wave fold

Which of these sounds like you?

You rent, and the flat has a track

Where a track or pole is up, a sheer with a matching heading can usually hang from it without new holes. A second layer means a new track unless the existing one is double, and every track we fit is drilled and screwed in. When you move, the sheer fits only a window of similar width and drop.

The afternoon sun lands on your laptop

Sun on your desk washes out the laptop screen. A sheer spreads direct sun into even light, so the screen is easier to read. For strong glare, add a roller blind between the sheer and the glass, at the cost of some view.

Your windows are double height

Ready-made sheers often stop short of tall villa glass. A made-to-measure sheer can hang from ceiling to floor. Most of our fabrics now come 280 to 320 cm wide, so a sheer with a drop up to that width has no seam across it. Double-height glass means our fitters work from scaffolding, charged separately.

Every quote you have is per metre

Fabric for a sheer runs far wider than its track. That extra width, the fullness, decides the folds, how much the sheer hides and the price. We make eyelet and wave headings at 2.5 times the width, pinch pleat at 2 times. On any quote, check whether its metres are fabric or track.

Can people see through sheer curtains at night?

A sheer curtain gives little privacy once your lights are on at night: people outside look from the dark into a lit room.

Illustration, not a measurement

  • By day

In daylight, neighbours opposite see mostly the sheer's bright surface. White hides more than grey of the same weave; grey gives a clearer view out.

  • At dusk

As the sky dims and the lights come on, shapes in the room show from outside, often before the window looks dark to you.

  • After dark

Draw a lined curtain or lower a blind before the lights go on; a sheer alone shows shapes and movement to anyone opposite.

Does your window need more than a sheer?

Whether a window needs more than a sheer depends on three questions. Can anyone see in when the room is lit at night? Does the afternoon sun heat the glass? Does someone sleep there after sunrise, around 5:30 am in June? A yes to any one means a second layer.

What do you choose: fabric, heading and track?

For a sheer, you choose the fabric, the heading and a track or pole.

Fabric

Fine white voile held against a sunlit window, its weave showing

Voile in daylight

  • Voile

Smooth and fine; usually polyester, so it hardly creases.

  • Linen-look

Usually polyester, made to look like linen.

  • Linen or linen blend

The real fibre, with a natural texture and soft creases.

  • Chiffon

Very fine and floaty; it snags easily.

Heading

How each heading hangs

  • Wave

Even, rolling folds on a track.

  • Pinch pleat

Stitched, upright pleats on a track.

  • Eyelet

Rings that slide along a pole.

Track

Ivory linen-look sheers drawn along a villa's glass wall, palms outside

Hung from the ceiling along villa glass

  • Ceiling track

Fixed to the ceiling, so no wall shows above the sheer.

  • Wall track or pole

Fixed above the frame, so some wall shows above it.

What should you settle before the track goes up?

Before anything is fixed, settle the layers, the heading and, if you rent, whether you may drill.

  • Layers: a sheer alone needs one track. A sheer with a blackout-lined curtain needs a double track, sheer on the window side and curtain on the room side, spaced so they pass without catching. A recess or curtain box needs room for both, which we measure at the visit.
  • Heading: a sheer with eyelets hangs from a pole and a wave heading from a track; a pinch pleat takes either. Every heading side by side shows their folds.
  • Renting: Dubai Law No. 26 of 2007 asks for the landlord's permission before changes to the flat (Article 19). The flat goes back as you received it (Article 21; Khaleej Times explains both). Some contracts allow holes you fill before moving out. Towers often set rules for fitters, and we arrange what the building asks of us as the contractor. If it wants an NOC from you as owner or tenant, you request it and pass it to us. This is information, not legal advice.

Judge texture and colour in your own light: linen curtains can be sheer too, and a sheer in a strong colour such as red tints the daylight. Sheers in a living room pair with an evening curtain; the rest of our curtains are on one page.

How does the sheer curtain estimate work?

Pick a heading, then enter the window's width and height. The calculator multiplies width × height by that heading's fullness to find the fabric, then prices it per m², making and fitting included. The measurements at the free home visit and the fabric you choose set your final price.

Which steps lead from your message to fitted sheers?

The Curtains Dubai measures your windows at a free home visit, makes the sheers to measure in its own workshop, and fits the track and sheers.

  1. Message or call us

Let us know which rooms need sheers, what each window faces and how tall the glass is. A photo of any track or pole helps. Home visits run Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 7 pm.

  2. The free home visit

You choose the layers and the heading while we take each window's width and drop. We work anywhere in Dubai and bring the fabric samples with us.

  3. Made in our workshop

A deposit confirms the order. Your sheers are cut and stitched in our Dubai workshop, and fitting follows 3 working days after approval; big or complicated jobs take longer. Share any move-in date before approving.

  4. Fitting day

On fitting day we put up the track, hang the sheers and set their folds. Once you book the free home visit, we go window by window: which take a sheer alone, which need a second layer.

Sheer curtains: cost, fabrics, heat and cleaning

Anything else, ask on the phone: 050 257 7765

How much do sheer curtains cost in Dubai?

Made and fitted by The Curtains Dubai, sheer curtains start at 40 per m² of fabric; the fabric you pick sets the final price. A wave or eyelet heading takes more fabric than a pinch pleat, so the same window costs more. Every window and part has its own line on our quote, which holds for 30 days.

Sheer or linen curtains: which should you choose?

Sheer describes how open a weave is, while linen is a fibre, so a linen sheer is both. Choose voile for a smooth look, real linen for texture with a few creases, and a heavier linen for more privacy by day.

Are voile, chiffon, net and lace curtains all sheers?

You can see shapes through voile, chiffon, net and lace, so each makes a sheer curtain, though none is fully transparent. Voile and chiffon are plain, fine weaves, net an open mesh and lace an openwork pattern. A fabric that lets light through but hides shapes is light-filtering, not sheer.

Do sheer curtains block heat and UV?

Most of the sun's heat passes through a sheer curtain's open weave, though the sheer cuts glare and some UV. UV readings published for Dubai reach 11 to 12 in late July. On hot west glass, add a lined curtain or a blind; DEWA's own summer advice is to shade glass.

How do you keep sheer curtains clean?

Dust comes off a sheer where it hangs, with a vacuum's soft brush. To wash it, follow the care label. Most polyester voile takes a short, cool machine cycle and creases less if hung back up damp; real linen can shrink at its first wash. We don't clean curtains ourselves.
