Wave curtains

Matched curves on a ceiling track

Made to measure in our workshop

Price on visit

If a wide sliding door opens your Dubai living room to the balcony, wave curtains suit it well. They also suit any window whose curtains open and close every day. A small window you seldom draw gains little from them. Not sure? Ask at the free home visit, where each window is measured.

What are carriers, fullness and the stack?

  • Charcoal-grey wave heading hanging from a white ceiling track, evenly spaced slots along the track above each wave, a window at left

    The carriers

    Linked carriers

Look up at the track: carriers are the sliders inside it, linked at one spacing by a cord or chain, and the curtain's studs press onto them.

  • Mid-grey wave curtain closed beside a window with a marina view, deep even curves at the top easing to softer folds at the hem

    The fullness

    Fabric against track

Fullness is how much wider the fabric is than the track: more gives deeper curves, uses more fabric and raises the price.

  • Navy wave curtain drawn fully open and stacked against the right wall beside tall glass doors with a sea view, a sofa at lower left

    The stack

    Drawn open

The stack is the open curtain's gathered fabric: see whether it rests on the wall or across part of the view.

Four starting points: tall glass, a nap, a rental, three quotes

Your glass is two storeys tall

Double-height glass often reaches the ceiling, leaving no wall above it for brackets, so the track goes on the ceiling. Pulling that much lined fabric across every day is hard work; a motor can take it over. For glass this tall, our fitters bring scaffolding, charged separately.

Your toddler naps after lunch

Nap time is usually sunny: Dubai Meteorological Office figures (1977 to 2015) give 3,570 hours of sunshine a year. Blackout lining blocks light through the fabric. A ceiling track run past the frame shrinks the gaps at the top and sides. Draw the curtain by hand or with a wand, so no cord loop hangs in reach.

Your flat came with a track in the ceiling

Whether that track takes wave carriers depends on its make. A new wave track is screwed in, as everything we fit is. When you move out, we take it down; filling the holes and painting aren't part of our work.

You're comparing three quotes

One heading can appear on quotes as S-fold, ripple fold or wave. The name matters less than the track and the fullness, which a quote can leave out, so ask each company to write both down. Ours prices each window separately, with every part on its own line.

Two storeys of glass

Where does the open curtain go on each window?

Each window needs a place for the gathered curtain: the wall beside the glass, or a fixed pane it can cover. That place decides whether a wave heading is worth it and how the track runs.

Fabric, lining, track and draw: four choices at the visit

Wave curtains we make are drawn by hand, with a wand or by a motor: Somfy, Dooya, or a general Tuya motor at a lower cost. We don't fit corded wave tracks.

Fabric

White sheer wave curtains closed across tall glass doors, daylight and towers softly visible through the cloth, a sofa at lower right

A sheer, closed by day

  • Sheer

See-through; softens glare and keeps the daylight.

  • A soft weave

Rolls into round, wavy curves; a stiff fabric looks boxy.

Lining

Taupe wave curtains drawn open either side of a tall window, a cream lining showing along each inner edge

A lined curtain's edge

  • Unlined

Light shows through, and the fabric takes the full sun.

  • Lined

The lining is sewn in, so both layers curve together.

  • Blackout-lined

No light through the fabric; the fit decides the edges.

Track

Dark brown wave curtain drawn to the right end of a white ceiling track, a small white box at the track's end, a window at left

The end of the track

  • On the ceiling

The curtain hangs from the ceiling, the track mostly hidden.

  • On the wall

Brackets above the frame, where the ceiling won't hold a track.

  • Motorized

Can take a wave heading too, drawn by a motor.

Draw

Cream wave curtains closed on a ceiling track, the two halves meeting in the middle, daylight glowing through, a window at left

A pair, meeting in the middle

  • A pair

Meets in the middle and stacks at both ends.

  • One curtain

Draws to one side, into one stack.

How far should the track run, and what holds it up?

The track's length follows one choice: where the open curtain will rest. Its fixings depend on what the ceiling or wall is made of.

  • Length: the open curtain's width depends on its fabric, lining and fullness, so it is measured at each window; our curtain sizes guide shows the working.
  • Fixings: knock where the track will go. A hollow sound usually means gypsum board. There, we drill the board, fit gypsum plugs and fix the brackets, then the track.
  • Extra load: a double track for a sheer and a blackout-lined curtain puts more weight on every fixing. So does a motorized track, whose motor usually sits at one end.
  • Permission: a tenant may alter the home only with the landlord's agreement (Article 19 of Dubai Law No. 26 of 2007). Article 21 says the home must go back in the state it was received, allowing for ordinary wear and tear (Khaleej Times explains both).
  • Drilling: if your contract or the agent rules out drilling, follow that condition. If the contract says nothing, the same Khaleej Times column says a tenant may generally drill and fill the holes before moving out. This is information, not legal advice.
  • The building: for fitting day, we arrange what the tower asks of us as the contractor. An NOC that has to come from you, as owner or tenant, you request and pass to us.

Where a track won't suit, an eyelet curtain needs only a pole and a few brackets. If the track you have won't take wave carriers, pinch pleats on hooks usually hang from its runners; compare our other curtains too.

A double track, two layers

Can you price a wave curtain from two measurements?

Yes, as an estimate. The calculator multiplies the window's width × height by 2.5 for the fullness, then by our starting rate per m² of fabric, which includes making and fitting. The measurements taken at your free home visit and the fabric you choose set the final price.

    A bedroom window

    A blackout-lined pair on a ceiling track.

  • Sage-green wave curtains drawn open on a white wall track above a living-room window, towers and palms outside, a sofa arm at right

    A living-room window

A pair on a wall track above the frame.

  • Burgundy wave curtains closed along the corner of a glass wall at dusk, marina lights through the glass at left, a lit floor lamp at right

    A glass wall

Two curtains on one long ceiling track.

What happens in your home, and what in our workshop?

The Curtains Dubai measures your windows at a free home visit, makes your wave curtains in its own workshop, then fits the track and hangs them.

Fabric samples by the glass

  1. Message us

Call or WhatsApp with the rooms and whether a track is already up.

  2. The free home visit

We measure the glass, the wall beside it for the stack, and the drop. We work anywhere in Dubai and bring fabric samples, so you see them in your room's own light. A deposit confirms the order.

  3. Made in our workshop

Your curtains are cut to their fullness, and the studs are set to suit the carriers. It takes 3 working days from approval to fitting, longer for a big or complicated job. Name any deadline, such as a move-in day, before approving.

  4. Fitting day

First the track is fixed, then each curtain is pressed onto its carriers. Draw every curtain open and closed yourself, so a stiff spot is found straight away. The track's length and the depth of the curves are both chosen at the window, during your free home visit.

Price, track, pleats, old curtains, warranty: five answers

Anything else, ask on the phone: 050 257 7765

How much do wave curtains cost in Dubai?

Our starting rate is 50 per m² of fabric, with making and fitting included, and the fabric you choose sets the final price. A 2 × 3 m window takes 15 m² of fabric once the fullness is added, so the estimate starts at 750. A motor is priced on top.

Do wave curtains need a special track?

A wave heading needs a track that holds its carriers at a fixed spacing. That can be a wave track on the ceiling or wall, or a pole with a track channel inside. On a plain pole with loose rings, the curves drift.

Pinch pleat or wave curtains?

Pinch pleats are folds stitched into the top and hung on hooks, so they suit most tracks and poles, including one you already have. A wave heading needs wave carriers. If your track is staying, pinch pleat is simpler; on new wide glass, choose between upright pleats and rolling curves.

My curtains are pleated. Can they be changed to wave?

Most pleated curtains can take a wave heading: the pleats are unpicked and wave tape is sewn on. The curtain then needs a track with wave carriers. Unpicking may take a little length off the top, and a curtain without enough width gives shallow curves. We change headings on curtains you own, usually in 3 to 5 working days.

What fails on wave curtains, and what should a warranty cover?

Three parts of a wave curtain can give way: the studs on its tape, the cord or chain linking its carriers, and the track's fixings. A warranty helps only if it says which parts it covers and for how long. Ours covers the stitching and making for 2 years, though not sun fading, and our fitting for 2 years.
