Curtains in Dubai, made to measure

Curtains in a Dubai apartment, a sheer and a lined layer on a double ceiling track, reaching the floor

Curtains

Made to measure in our own workshop

Free home visit and measuring

If your new home has floor-to-ceiling glass, ready-made lengths may stop short of the floor, which is why many curtains in Dubai are made to measure. Our own workshop sews yours, sheer or lined, and our own fitters hang them. For a standard window, a ready-made curtain may be enough. We take every measurement ourselves, at a free home visit.

What does your window need a curtain to do?

Choose a curtain by the job it does at the window. With about 3,570 hours of sunshine a year (Dubai Meteorological Office figures, 1977 to 2015), the daytime job here is mostly cutting glare and heat.

We make curtains for offices, warehouses and hotel apartments as well as homes. Most of our fabrics come 280 to 320 cm wide, so a drop up to that width needs no horizontal join. A few come 140 cm wide.

What decides how much light and heat a curtain keeps out?

How well a curtain keeps out light and heat depends on its lining and what it hangs from. With a blackout lining, the fabric itself lets almost no light through. A pale lining on the window side also reflects much of the sun before it warms the room, even behind a dark fabric.

DEWA's own summer advice includes shading glass. For a west-facing room, read our guide to heat-blocking curtains.

A bright line down each side of a closed curtain usually means the track ends at the window frame. Extend it past the frame and the curtain covers a strip of wall at each side. A ceiling track, or a pelmet over a wall track, keeps light from showing above the curtain.

The heading decides what the curtain hangs from. A wave heading, the even folds seen in many modern rooms, runs on a track, and a pinch pleat hangs from a track or a rod. We can add a motor to curtains you already have, on a new, motorized track.

An eyelet curtain threads onto a pole, so light can show above it, and a standard motor track won't carry it.

The Curtains Dubai is a Dubai curtains and blinds company that measures your windows at a free home visit, makes curtains and blinds to measure in its own workshop, and supplies and installs motorized and smart curtains and blinds.

In a rented home, new holes need the landlord's permission first (Article 19 of Dubai Law No. 26 of 2007). Article 21 adds a second duty: leaving the flat as it was when you moved in (Khaleej Times on the law). This is information, not legal advice.

Some tenancy contracts let you drill if you fill every hole before returning the keys. Every track and pole we put up is fixed with screws, so settle that permission first.

Towers often set rules for fitting day as well. We arrange whatever the building asks of us as the contractor. If an NOC must come from you as owner or tenant, you request it and pass it on to us.

Which room are the curtains for?

Each room page starts from what its windows have to do, from a living room's sliding door to an office's glass wall.

How are your curtains measured, made and fitted?

  1. Measured where the curtains will hang

Your first call or WhatsApp message only needs to name the rooms. We come anywhere in Dubai for the free home visit and measure the width and drop of each window. We bring fabric samples, so you can hold each one up at your own window.

  2. Made in our workshop

The quote you approve lists every window and every part separately, and holds for 30 days. A deposit confirms the order. Our workshop in Dubai then makes each curtain to the sizes taken at the visit. We fit 3 working days after you approve; big or complicated jobs take longer.

  3. Fitted by our team

We fix the track or pole and hang the curtains, with a 2-year workmanship warranty. If our measurement was wrong, we alter or remake the curtain at no charge. After fitting, the salesperson who handled your order stays your contact. With every window measured at the visit, you decide where blackout is worth it and where a sheer is enough.

Questions to settle before you buy curtains

Anything else, ask on the phone: 050 257 7765

What makes up the price of made-to-measure curtains?

Fabric, lining, making, the track or pole, fitting and any motor make up the price. Our starting rates are 40 to 50 per m² of fabric, made and fitted, with a 6 m² minimum. The fabric is width × height × fullness. Your fabric sets the final price. Linen, red, soundproof and motorized curtains are priced at the visit.

Are ready-made curtains long enough for Dubai ceilings?

Glass in many Dubai flats and villas runs higher than a ready-made curtain reaches. Measure from where the track or pole will sit, down to the floor: if a ready-made length covers that, it will do. A short pair can be lengthened by the spare fabric in its hem, if there is any, or by a sewn-on band.

Do you have a curtain shop in Dubai?

There is no shop or showroom: The Curtains Dubai comes to you. Our fabric samples travel with us to the free home visit, so you choose in your own light. The curtains are then custom-made in our own workshop in Dubai, to the sizes taken at your windows.

How long do curtains last in Dubai's sun?

A west window wears a curtain out faster than a north one, so nobody can tell you its life in years. Lined curtains usually outlast unlined ones, because the lining faces the sun. UV readings published for Dubai reach an extreme 11 to 12 in late July. Our 2-year warranty covers stitching and making, not sun fading.
