Check four things first: the window, the ceiling, the building's rules and, if you rent, your contract.
- The window: close it and listen near the frame. If the noise is loudest at the edges, the seals are letting it in, and no curtain fixes that.
- The ceiling: a heavy curtain pulls on its track every time it is drawn. In gypsum, we drill the board, fit gypsum plugs and fix the brackets, then the track; our page on fixing curtains into gypsum explains the rest.
- The building: many towers set rules for fitting day. What they ask of us as the contractor, we arrange; an NOC that must come from you, as owner or tenant, you request and send us.
- Renting: Article 19 of Dubai Law No. 26 of 2007 means no drilling without the landlord's approval. Article 21 wants the home back unchanged at move-out (Khaleej Times has both). Your contract may still allow screws if you repair the holes. This is information, not legal advice.
Where you sleep, light and privacy count as much as noise: see blackout curtains and curtains for a bedroom. Offices have a page on quieter meeting rooms.
On double-height glass, a heavy curtain is easier to draw with a motor rated for its weight. Where noise isn't the issue, start with the rest of our curtains.
