You want shade out on the balcony
For a covered balcony, terrace or pergola, we make bamboo blinds in natural or synthetic weaves, with tie-downs against the wind. Out there, natural bamboo changes colour sooner than indoors.

If the afternoon sun comes through your sliding door, balcony curtains hang indoors on a ceiling or wall track: a sheer by day, a lined curtain at night. The track runs past the frame, so open curtains gather beside the door. On a covered balcony, a blind of woven bamboo gives shade. We measure at a free home visit.

Facing east, the door takes the June sun from around 5:30 am, and light gets in under the hem. Cut about 10 cm longer, a blackout curtain rests on the floor and closes that gap. It gathers sand there, so draw it clear of the door's runner before you slide the door.
A curtain track is drilled into the ceiling or the wall, and we have no fixing that avoids it. We take the track down when you leave, but filling and painting the holes isn't our work.
A motor at one end of the track draws it from a remote, a wall switch or an app. We fit Somfy, Dooya and lower-cost Tuya motors. A wired one needs a power point by the track, which your electrician or ours can add.
Your balcony door is the way out as well as a window, so judge each option open and shut.
Sheer by day
Lined at night
Two layers on one double track
| Option | Suits | With the door open | Skip it if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sheer and lined curtain, double track | Sun on the glass by day, privacy at night | On a track run past the frame, both gather clear of the door | No sun reaches the glass and nobody looks in |
| Sheer alone | A door that gets little direct sun | Light and quick to draw back | Someone can see in once your lamps are on |
| Vertical blind | A door you walk through all day | Slats slide back as far as you need | You prefer the look of fabric folds |

Glass side of the track
It softens the afternoon glare and keeps the balcony and the view in sight.

On a ceiling track
Carriers spaced evenly along the track fold the curtain in matching curves, so it stacks into a narrow bunch.

Under the balcony ceiling
Fine reed or flat slat, rolled up or folded, and up to 250 cm wide in a single blind.
A balcony door is often a room's widest glass, and the balcony's ceiling blocks only a high sun. In summer the midday sun stands almost overhead, so the door stays in shade. Late in the day, a low sun reaches under the ceiling onto a west-facing door, and in winter it reaches into a south-facing room.
Dubai Meteorological Office figures (1977 to 2015) put August's mean daily maximum at 42.1°C. In June the sun sets after 7 pm, so a west-facing door can take sun until then. What helps:
Renting? Article 19 of Dubai Law No. 26 of 2007 means asking the landlord before you change the flat. Article 21 means handing it back as you found it (Khaleej Times on both). This is information, not legal advice.
For more on the heat, read what keeps a sun-facing room cooler. Other fabrics and headings are on the main curtains page.

The Curtains Dubai measures your balcony door at a free home visit, makes the curtains in its own workshop and fits them itself.
On the glass
Past the frame
Stacked on the glass, or past the frame
Send a photo of the door from inside, with the sun on it, and say which way it faces and if you rent.
We measure the door and the wall beside it for the stack, then agree where the hem stops: about 1 cm off the floor, or resting on it. We bring samples to hold against your own light, anywhere in Dubai. A deposit confirms the order.
Fitting usually follows 3 working days after you approve; a big or complicated job takes longer. We arrange what the tower asks of us as the contractor, and you obtain any NOC that must come from you as owner or tenant.
Once the curtains hang, draw them back and slide the door to check it opens fully. Bring three questions to the free home visit: one layer or two, which way the curtain should open, and whether a motor is worth it.
Anything else, ask on the phone: 050 257 7765
At our starting rates, curtains for a balcony door cost 40 per m² of fabric for a sheer and 50 for blackout, made and fitted. Your fabric sets the final price. In a wave heading, at 2.5 times its width, a 300 × 240 cm door takes 18 m² of fabric. Blackout then starts at 900, a sheer at 720.
Ask before you buy. Many towers and communities in Dubai limit what may hang where it is seen from outside, and each sets its own rules. Building management or the community office can tell you what your balcony allows; ask in writing and keep the reply.
Sand settles first on the hem and the lowest folds, nearest the door. When it shows, go over the curtain from top to bottom with a vacuum's soft brush, set low. For a stain, follow the care label: washing or dry cleaning. We don't offer curtain cleaning.
The stitching and making carry a 2-year warranty, and so does our fitting; sun fading isn't covered. A motor has its own: 5 years on Somfy, 2 on Dooya and Tuya. After fitting, the salesperson who handled your order is the one to call.
We call or message you on the number you gave to agree a day for the visit. Then we visit and measure every window. The visit and the measuring are free.
