If you want wooden blinds in your Dubai home, we make them in faux wood, not real timber. Faux-wood slats have the look of painted or stained wood but keep their shape beside a shower or a sink, where timber can warp. They tilt as well as lift. We measure your windows room by room at a free home visit.

What does a wooden blind sample tell you?

The slats
At its cut end, a faux-wood slat shows an even core where timber would show grain.
The ladder
Each slat rests on a ladder of cords or cloth tapes. Check that it hangs straight and holds every slat level.
The pull cords
They work the headrail's lift and tilt. With the blind raised, see how low they hang.

Four windows: which one is yours?

Your desk is by the window

Facing the window, you get the glare in your eyes; with your back to it, the glare lands on your screen. A desk at right angles to the window is easiest, and slats tilted part-way cut what's left.

A toddler sleeps or plays here

Pull cords hang within a toddler's reach, and the lift cords inside the slats can be pulled into a loop. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission advises cordless window coverings where young children live, so a motor suits this room. We fit child-safe controls on request; tell us at the visit that a toddler uses it.

It's a rented flat

Keep any blinds the flat came with: they may have to go back up at move-out. Ours only go up with screws, so expect a few holes in the wall or recess. Moving later? Taking out slats shortens a blind, but a wider window needs a new one.

The window faces west

UV readings published for Dubai reach 11 to 12 in late July, and west glass takes direct sun most afternoons. Over the years a dark finish shows fading first, so pale slats suit west glass.

Do wooden blinds warp in Dubai's humidity?

Real wood warps when water keeps reaching it, fastest through a cut end. Our wooden blinds are faux wood, which takes steam and splashes, though strong heat can still warp it. The National Centre of Meteorology has forecast humidity up to 90% on the coast, but air-conditioned rooms stay far drier.

Which ladder and control suit your window?

Every wooden blind we make has 50 mm faux-wood slats, and a single blind can be up to 280 cm wide. Two choices remain: what holds the slats, and how you raise them.

How the slats tilt

Cord
Cords at one side lift the blind and tilt the slats.
Motor
Lifts, and usually tilts, by remote or wall switch; no cord hangs.

How deep, how wide, and can you drill?

Depth: measure from the tip of the window handle, or the glass, to the front edge of the opening. The slats tilt in that space. If it is too shallow, the blind is fitted outside the opening.
Width: a wide window takes one long blind, or two or three narrower ones with a gap of light between them. Each narrow one lifts easily; the long one is heavy on a cord, which is where a motor helps.
Drilling: get the landlord's permission first. Article 19 of Dubai Law No. 26 of 2007 requires it for changes to a rented flat. Article 21 expects the flat back as you received it (Khaleej Times explains both). Ask in writing: a landlord may accept holes filled at move-out. This is information, not legal advice. For fitting day, we arrange what the building asks of us as the contractor. If it wants a no-objection certificate (NOC) from you, as owner or tenant, you request it and pass it to us.

A bedroom's second layer can be a blackout roller behind the slats, if the opening is deep enough, or a blackout-lined curtain in front. How much do wooden blinds cost in Dubai?

Area sets most of a wooden blind's price. Our faux-wood blinds start at 250 per square metre of blind, making and fitting included, with a 2 m² minimum per blind. Two small blinds on one window can therefore cost more than a single one. Your choices set the final price.

Do wooden blinds help keep a room cool?

A pale wooden blind, closed while sun is on the glass, keeps more heat out than a dark one. Dark slats absorb sunlight and warm the room. DEWA's own summer advice is to shade windows; air conditioning was about 70% of a household's electricity bill in DEWA figures reported in 2019.

What is the difference between wooden blinds and wooden shutters?

A wooden Venetian blind hangs from a headrail; its slats tilt and the whole blind lifts. A wooden shutter is a set of hinged panels in a frame fixed round the window: its louvres tilt, and the panels swing open like doors.

How do you clean wooden blinds?

Wooden blinds can be dusted in place. Closed, the slats turn one face to the room, so a soft dry cloth reaches them all; then reverse the tilt. A mark on faux-wood slats wipes off with a damp cloth; brush cloth tapes dry.

What warranty should wooden blinds come with?

Three warranties matter on a wooden blind: the slats, which can warp or fade; the headrail's lift and tilt parts, which wear; and the fitting. Get all three in writing before you approve a quote. Ours each run for 2 years: the slats against warping, bowing and fading, the headrail's parts, and our workmanship.
