If shower steam or grease from the hob reaches your window, Venetian blinds cope with both in a Dubai home. Their horizontal aluminium slats tilt to aim the daylight and wipe clean. Closed, they still let light through, so a bedroom that must be dark needs a blackout blind. We measure each recess at a free home visit.

What do good slats, strings and controls look like?
Check all three on any Venetian blind you're shown, and again on fitting day.
The slats
Closed, the slats should overlap evenly; a crease shows a knocked one.
The ladder strings
Ladder strings hold the slats at one spacing and turn them together; check they hang straight.
The controls
The tilt control should turn the slats smoothly and hold them where you stop; a slipping tilt usually means wear.

Your toddler plays by the window
The lift cord is the risk: it hangs within reach and can form a loop. A motor removes the cord altogether; on a corded blind, wind any loose cord round a hook high on the wall. We fit child-safe controls on request, so tell us at the visit that a toddler plays here.
The flat is rented
Small brackets in the top of the recess hold the headrail out of sight. We fix them with screws, so ask the landlord before fitting day. At move-out we take the blind down; filling the holes and painting aren't our work. A workshop can usually cut a blind narrower for a smaller window, never wider.
Your old blind has a bent slat
Often one knocked slat or a worn ladder string is the whole fault, and either can be replaced. Note the slat width and colour before you call. We repair blinds bought elsewhere too, and talk the job through on the phone before coming out.

Where does a Venetian blind work, and where doesn't it?
A window with two jobs can take two layers: a Venetian blind by day, and a lined curtain drawn across it at night.

Which slat colour, and which control?
Every Venetian blind we make has 25 mm aluminium slats, which turn even in a shallow recess. A single blind can be up to 280 cm wide. That leaves two choices: one of many colours, and the control.

Where should a Venetian blind's headrail go?
A Venetian blind's headrail sits inside the recess or higher on the wall, and that decides where the raised slats stack. Inside, the stack hides the top of the glass, and a handle that sticks out can stop the slats turning. Light also slips past both edges.
Fixed on the wall above, the stack can clear the glass, and a blind wider than the opening leaves less light at the sides. We fit either way, so the window decides. For the look of wood, faux-wood slats hang the same way.

Renting? Under Dubai Law No. 26 of 2007, your landlord must agree before you alter the flat (Article 19). You also return it in its original state when you leave (Article 21). If the contract has no clause on drilling, you may drill and repair the holes on leaving (Khaleej Times on tenants' rights).

Size sets most of a Venetian blind's price. Your width × height gives the area, charged at our starting rate per square metre of blind, which includes making and fitting; a motor costs extra. The final price depends on your choices and the sizes we take at the free home visit.

Fitting day
The headrail clips into its brackets and the slats are set level; then you try the tilt and lift. The blind's mechanism and our workmanship each carry a 2-year warranty. A cot, a desk or a hob nearby decides the control and where the headrail goes; the free home visit settles both.

How much do Venetian blinds cost in Dubai?
Venetian blind prices in Dubai follow the window's area. The catch is on small windows: many makers charge a minimum size, so a small bathroom blind can cost as much as a larger one. Our starting rate is 90 per square metre of blind, making and fitting included, with a 2 m² minimum; your choices set the final price.
Aluminium or wooden Venetian blinds: which suits a Dubai home?
On the coast, the National Centre of Meteorology has forecast humidity up to 90%, so choose by how damp the room gets. Aluminium slats don't absorb water. Real wood can swell or warp where steam collects. Our wooden blinds are faux wood, which keeps the look in a damp room but weighs more than aluminium.
Can people see in through Venetian blinds at night?
At night, open Venetian slats let people outside see in once the lamps are on. By day the room is darker than outside, so half-open slats usually hide it. Closed fully, they hide the room, though light still shows at the slat edges and through the small holes for the lift cord.
How do you clean Venetian blinds without taking them down?
A soft, dry brush drawn across closed Venetian slats lifts the dust in place; tilt them the other way to reach their backs. Grease by the hob needs a drop of washing-up liquid on a damp cloth, then a dry one. Cleaning is not a service we offer.
Can I measure and fit a Venetian blind myself?
Fitting a Venetian blind yourself is manageable where you're allowed to drill. Measure the recess width in three places, since plastered sides are rarely straight, and work from the smallest so the slats can't rub. Made to your sizes, a blind that doesn't fit is changed at your cost; made to our measurements, it's altered or remade at no charge.
