Your child sleeps from 7 pm to 6 am
In June the sun sets after 7 pm and rises again around 5:30 am (sunrise and sunset tables). Bedtime and first waking both fall in daylight, so the room has to stay dim at both ends of the night.

Bedroom curtains
Dark for the hours you sleep

Choose bedroom curtains in Dubai by the hours someone sleeps in the room. A blackout-lined curtain covers sleep past sunrise; a blind behind it is worth adding only for someone who sleeps through full daylight. We measure every bedroom window at a free home visit.

In June the sun sets after 7 pm and rises again around 5:30 am (sunrise and sunset tables). Bedtime and first waking both fall in daylight, so the room has to stay dim at both ends of the night.
Your sleep falls in the brightest, hottest part of the day: in August, Dubai's average daily high is 42.1°C (Dubai Meteorological Office figures, 1977 to 2015). An east window takes the sun as you go to bed and a west one as you wake, so you need the darkest set-up in the table.
Every track and blind we fit is fixed with screws. We don't fit no-drill systems such as tension rods or stick-on brackets, so the landlord's agreement comes first. When you move out, we take the tracks down; filling the holes and painting aren't our work. Made-to-measure curtains can move with you, though the next flat may need them altered.
Ready-made lengths often stop short of a tall Dubai window; where a shop-bought pair does match the drop, it may be all you need. Most of our fabrics now come 280 to 320 cm wide, so a drop up to that size is made without a horizontal join. In a gypsum ceiling, we fix the track's brackets into gypsum plugs.

A child's room at dusk
Bedroom set-ups run from the darkest, a blackout-lined curtain and a blind together, down to a lighter lining. A sheer can join any of them for daytime privacy.

A double track
| Set-up | How dark | Suits | Skip it if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blackout-lined curtain with a blind behind | Darkest | Sleep in full daylight | You like waking to daylight |
| Blackout-lined curtain, track past the frame | Dark; little light at the edges | Sleep past sunrise | Nobody sleeps there after sunrise |
| Curtain with a lighter lining | Dim; daylight shows through the fabric | Rooms used after dark | Early light wakes the sleeper |
| Sheer and blackout-lined curtain, double track | Private by day; dark once the lined curtain closes | Bedrooms overlooked by other buildings | Nothing overlooks the window |

Window side
Lowered for sleep in full daylight. Light that slips past its edges then meets the closed curtain, which overlaps the wall.

Room side
Closed for sleep, with a hem that reaches the floor. Most of our blackout fabrics are coated on the back in grey, white or cream. A dim-out fabric gets a blackout lining sewn in.

The end away from the bed
A motor at this end lets you draw the curtain from bed and keeps its hum away from the pillow. A wired motor needs a power point there, which your electrician or ours can add; ask us about a battery motor instead.
If the curtain is blackout-lined, the light that wakes a sleeper comes round it, not through it. On a bright morning, the thin lines of light at its edges show where each gap is, and how to close it.
In a bedroom, a track at or near the ceiling closes the top; an eyelet curtain hung from a pole can't. The track's height also sets the drop, and most hems stop about 1 cm above the floor. At floor-to-ceiling glass, a hem resting on the floor stops light showing underneath, though it picks up dust.
A west window also heats the room while you sleep through the afternoon. Our guide explains how to keep a sunlit bedroom cooler. If a busy road keeps you awake, see what a heavier lining for traffic noise can and can't do. For a natural fabric, try lined linen, or see the rest of our curtains.
A child, a lease or a tower also changes the fitting:

The Curtains Dubai measures your bedroom windows at a free home visit, makes the curtains in its own workshop, and fits them itself.

Lining samples on the bed
Tell us who sleeps there, and when. A photo of the window helps, as does knowing if you rent.
We take every window's width and drop, then agree where each track should end beyond the frame. We work anywhere in Dubai and bring fabric samples, so you see each lining in the room's own light. A deposit confirms the order.
Fitting usually follows 3 working days after you approve; a large or complicated order takes longer. If the room has to be ready by a particular night, give us the date before you approve.
Once everything is up, close the curtains with the lights off and point out any gap before we leave. Both the sewing and our fitting come with a 2-year warranty; sun fading isn't covered. Your visit is where we settle how dark this room should be, which lining gets it there, and whether a blind goes behind it.

Blackout curtains start at 50 per m² of fabric, made and fitted; the fabric you choose sets the final price. Fabric is the window's width × height × fullness (2.5 for eyelet), so a 2 × 3 m window in eyelet blackout starts at 750. A motor is extra, and your quote lists each window and part separately.
A window that opens inwards can hit a blind inside the recess, so it takes a curtain or a blind fixed on the wall above. For other windows, width decides: a narrow one takes a blind, while wide or floor-to-ceiling glass takes a curtain that overlaps the wall and darkens better. The darkest set-up in the table uses both.
A plain curtain with a blackout lining keeps naps dark and outlasts printed kids' curtains, which a child soon outgrows. Curtains on hooks lift off the track, but many blackout linings can't be machine-washed: check the care label first. We don't offer curtain cleaning.
Measuring is our job, not yours. The Curtains Dubai takes every width and drop at the free home visit, from the track's planned height down to the floor. Our workshop then sews each curtain to those sizes. If one still doesn't fit, the mistake is ours, so we alter or remake it at no charge.
We call or message you on the number you gave to agree a day for the visit. Then we visit and measure every window. The visit and the measuring are free.
