Blackout blinds in Dubai for sleeping past 8 am

Blackout blinds

For sleep in daylight

Made to measure in our workshop

Price on visit

If a bedroom in your Dubai home must stay dark after 8 am, blackout blinds belong on its window; for an evening-only room, dim-out is enough. Lowered, a blackout blind lets daylight in only at its edges, in narrow strips. Our free home visit measures each window and settles, with you, the fit that keeps them narrowest.

Which three parts keep the daylight out?

  • Cream back of a lowered blackout roller blind seen through one pane of a sliding window from outside, sky reflected in the other

    The coated back

It stops the light, whatever colour faces the room, so blackout needn't be black.

  • Charcoal blackout roller blind lowered most of the way down a window, a white chain at its right edge, towers showing below its bar

    The side channels

Upright strips each side hold the fabric's edges, so little daylight slips past.

  • Greige blackout roller blind lowered under a white cassette, seen from below at an angle, a second window with its own blind at the right

    The cassette

A box that hides the roll and shuts the gap above it.

What brings you to blackout blinds?

Nap time is 1 pm, in full sun

For a nursery, blackout blinds guard against two kinds of wake-up light: the June sunrise, around 5:30 am, and the sun at the 1 pm nap. Keep every cord and chain out of a child's reach. We fit child-safe controls on request, so tell us at the visit that the room is a nursery.

Your last blackout blind still glowed

Check where it glowed. Lines down the sides come from gaps beside the fabric; a band along the top comes from an uncovered roll. Ask each firm where its blind will sit: in the recess, over it, or in channels under a cassette.

Your lease says no new holes

The darkest fit, channels under a cassette, usually takes the most screws. We fix every blind with screws and don't fit tension or adhesive systems. At move-out we take the blinds down; filling the holes and painting aren't part of our work. Measure the next flat's window before counting on reusing this blind.

You only want the glare off a screen

Blackout is more than a desk needs: closed at 3 pm, it leaves you typing by lamplight. For screen glare, a sunscreen roller lowered partway is usually enough, and you keep daylight to work by.

Which blackout blind gets a bedroom darkest?

Blackout roller blinds in side channels under a cassette make a bedroom darker than other blind types do. With a lined curtain in front, the room gets darker still. Roman and vertical blinds let in more light; slatted and day-and-night blinds aren't blackout.

How do you raise and lower a blackout blind?

We make blackout rollers, open or in a cassette with side channels, and Roman blinds with a blackout lining. A child's room is where the control matters most.

Control

Ivory blackout roller blind lowered halfway down a window, its chain held straight by a small clip at the right, towers below it

The chain, clipped to the wall

  • Spring

Pull the bottom bar down; a light tug sends it back up.

  • Chain

Clipped tight to the wall, so no loop hangs free.

  • Motor

Nothing to pull; the controls depend on the motor.

What do strong sun and a rented flat change?

Strong sun decides what colour the blind's back should be, and when you lower it. Renting decides how the blind is fixed.

  • Heat: turn a sample over. A white or pale back, facing the glass, sends part of the sun's heat back out. A dark back holds it and warms the air between blind and glass. Lower a west-facing blind by early afternoon, before sun reaches the glass. Blinds over sunny glass are on DEWA's list of summer cooling tips.
  • Renting: the landlord's permission comes before any change to the flat (Article 19, Dubai Law No. 26 of 2007). Article 21 sets the move-out standard: the flat in the condition you found it, except for ordinary wear and tear (Khaleej Times quotes both articles). Some contracts allow small holes, as long as you fill them before you go. This is information, not legal advice.
  • Fitting day: a tower may ask for paperwork before any drilling. We arrange what the building asks of us as the contractor. If the building wants a no-objection certificate (NOC) from you as owner or tenant, you request it and hand it to us.

In an east-facing bedroom, a lined blackout curtain in front catches the light that gets past the blind. For softer folds, choose a Roman blind with a blackout lining; for no pull cord at all, a blind that runs on a motor.

A desk by the window does better with roller blinds in sunscreen fabric; the blinds page compares the types.

Where does a blackout blind's price come from?

Enter the width and height, and the estimate prices each square metre of blind at our blackout roller starting rate, making and fitting included. Roman blinds have their own starting rate, and a motor is priced on top. The fabric you choose and the measurements from the free home visit fix the final price.

How does a blackout blind look at each window size?

  • Dusty blue blackout roller blind half lowered inside a small bedroom window recess, towers below it, the foot of a bed at the right

    A small window

One roller fitted inside the recess.

  • Navy blackout roller blind lowered most of the way on a wide bedroom window, the sea and towers below its bar, a bed at the right

    A bedroom window

One roller in side channels under a cassette.

  • Mocha brown blackout roller blind lowered over a large bedroom window, running past its frame, palms and villas below, a bed at the right

    A large window

One roller fixed over the recess, past the frame.

What happens between measuring and a dark room?

The Curtains Dubai measures your windows at a free home visit, makes your blackout blinds to measure in its own workshop, and fits them.

Where the blind is fixed

  1. Call or WhatsApp us

Who sleeps in the room, and when? Do you rent? Your answers shape the visit.

  2. The free home visit

We measure the recess and the wall beside it, since a blind over the recess needs room there. We work anywhere in Dubai and bring blackout samples to try against your window. A deposit confirms the order.

  3. Made in our workshop

We cut every blind to its own window in our workshop in Dubai. If a blind we measured doesn't fit, we alter or remake it at no charge. Expect fitting 3 working days after you approve, or longer for a large or complicated order. Tell us if the room must be dark by a certain date.

  4. Fitting day

We fix any channels or cassette and hang each blind. Before the fitter leaves, lower every blind in daylight and look at its edges. Making and fitting each carry a 2-year warranty; sun fading isn't covered. The free home visit turns what you tell us about sleep times and renting into a blind and a fit for each bedroom.

Five more questions about blackout blinds

Anything else, ask on the phone: 050 257 7765

How much do blackout blinds cost in Dubai?

Each quote for blackout blinds should price the fabric, any cassette or channels, the control and the fitting, and give the area. We list each window and part on its own line. Our blackout rollers start at 120 per square metre of blind, made and fitted, with a 2 m² minimum. The fabric you pick moves the final price.

What are the downsides of blackout blinds?

Closed at midday, a blackout blind leaves the room dark enough to need lamps. Without side channels, light shows at the edges. The coating can crease or crack if the fabric is forced, and a coated fabric looks stiffer and plainer than a soft, woven one.

What is the difference between dim-out and blackout blinds?

Dim-out fabric softens daylight to a glow: it cuts glare and blocks the view, but the room stays dim, not dark. Held up to a sunny window, a blackout sample shows no glow at all, which is the quickest way to tell the two apart.

Can you wash a blackout blind?

Most coated blackout fabrics shouldn't go in a washing machine. Brush or vacuum off the dust, clean marks with a damp cloth, and let it dry before rolling it up. Some Roman blind fabrics come off for washing: follow the label.

Can a blackout blind go behind the curtains I already have?

Your existing curtains usually leave room for a blackout blind behind them. Inside the recess, the blind sits back from the wall, so your curtain slides past it and covers the side gaps. Over the recess, it stands further out, and the track may need longer brackets.
