Kitchen curtains in Dubai, kept clear of the hob

Open-plan kitchen with a light grey roller blind on the window behind the island and taupe curtains open at the dining window, towers outside

Price on visit

In a Dubai flat or villa, kitchen curtains suit the windows away from the hob. Beside it, air from the AC can swing a loose curtain towards the heat, while a blind fixed in the recess stays put and wipes clean. Both are made in our own workshop, to measurements taken at a free home visit.

Is your kitchen one of these four?

The sink sits under the window

You stand at this window to wash up, so the lower glass takes the splashes and the steam from the hot tap. A PVC roller in the recess wipes clean of both. A motorized one has no chain to pull with wet hands.

Your kitchen opens onto the living room

After dark, with the lights on, a sheer alone lets the tower opposite see in. Hang a lined curtain on its own track in front of it. Seen from the sofa, the pair can then share the living room's fabric.

A glass door leads to the garden or the laundry

You open this door all day, often with full hands. A curtain for a kitchen door needs a track wider than the doorway, so it gathers clear of the opening. On a hinged door, a blind fixed to the door swings open with it.

You rent, and drilling isn't allowed

A tension rod wedged across the recess needs no holes. It can hold a light café curtain, one that stops partway up the window, and you can put it up yourself. We don't fit tension rods or stick-on brackets: every blind, track and pole we fit is screwed in place.

Which kitchen blinds and curtains suit the hob and the sink?

Beside the hob, a window covering must hang still and wipe clean; over the sink, it must cope with splashes and steam. Where one window sits above both, judge it by the hob column.

We make both hob-side blinds to measure: aluminium Venetians with 25 mm slats, and PVC rollers. Our rollers also come in sunscreen, dim-out and blackout fabric.

What hangs at a kitchen window, from the hob outwards?

What do the hob, the sink and a lease change?

Near a hob, fabric meets heat, grease and moving air; near a sink, steam and splashes. In a rented flat, the lease decides how anything is fixed.

  • Heat: a hot ring or a gas flame can scorch fabric or set it alight. Keep anything loose out of the hob's reach.
  • Grease: warm water with a little washing-up liquid lifts it from PVC and aluminium. Fabric by the hob would have to come down for every clean.
  • Steam: the kettle, the dishwasher and the sink mist the glass. Fabric touching damp glass can smell musty or spot with mould, so hang a curtain clear of it.
  • Washing: follow the care label. On a humid day, dry curtains indoors, not outside: the National Centre of Meteorology has forecast humidity up to 90% on the coast. We don't offer curtain cleaning.
  • Renting: Article 19 of Dubai Law No. 26 of 2007 asks a tenant to get the landlord's consent before altering the property. Article 21 has the flat returned as it was handed over, as Khaleej Times reports. Check your lease too: it may permit small holes that you repair before handing back the keys. At move-out we take the blinds and tracks down, but filling the holes and painting aren't part of our work. Our page on fitting in a rented flat explains what to settle with the landlord first. This is information, not legal advice.
  • In a tower: ask the management office whether fitting day needs a contractor permit. We handle what the building requires of its contractor. If an NOC has to come from you as owner or tenant, you request it and send it to us.

For the window by the hob, weigh aluminium slats against the PVC roller. At the dining end, see curtains for the living room it opens onto and the rest of our curtains.

How does a kitchen window get measured, made and fitted?

The Curtains Dubai measures every kitchen window at a free home visit, makes each blind or curtain in its own workshop, and fits it.

Where the blind is fixed

  1. Call or WhatsApp us

Photograph each kitchen window from where you stand to cook, and tell us whether you rent.

  2. The free home visit

We measure each window, inside the recess and around it, and bring blind and fabric samples to try at the window itself. We work anywhere in Dubai, and a deposit confirms the order.

  3. Made in our workshop

Blinds and curtains alike are usually fitted 3 working days after you approve; a large or complicated order takes longer. Need it fitted by a set day? Ask for that date on the quote.

  4. Fitting day

Before we leave, try each blind and curtain from where you cook and wash up. Our fitting and each blind's mechanism carry a 2-year warranty. We check each recess's depth as well as its width at the free home visit, which settles whether a blind fits inside, clear of the window handle.

Kitchen curtain questions: cost, fabric, length and ready-made

Anything else, ask on the phone: 050 257 7765

How much do kitchen curtains and blinds cost in Dubai?

Blinds start at 90 per m² for aluminium Venetian, 120 for a roller and 250 for Roman, made and fitted, with a 2 m² minimum. Eyelet curtains start at 50 per m² of fabric, which is width × height × 2.5, and at least 6 m². The fabric you choose sets the final price. Our quote prices every part separately.

Which fabric suits kitchen curtains?

Start with the care label: a fabric marked dry clean only doesn't belong in a kitchen, where grease means regular washing. Polyester holds its size and dries quickly. Pure linen creases and may shrink a little in its first wash. A heavy lining adds weight and slows drying, so leave it out.

How long should kitchen window curtains be?

Measure the drop from the pole or track to the point the hem must clear. Over a worktop, that point is usually the sill, which keeps the hem dry and off the counter. At a dining end or a garden door, the drop can run to the floor.

Can I just buy ready-made kitchen curtains?

Ready-made panels suit a standard window with a pole and usually cost less, but come in set sizes. A recess blind must fit the recess's narrowest width, and many recesses are slightly out of square. If a blind we measured doesn't fit, we alter or remake it at no charge; if you measured, changes are at your cost.
