A window needs four things before a curtain motor goes in: power, a solid fixing, the landlord's permission if you rent, and whatever the building asks for.
- Power: a wired motor needs a power point at its end of the track. Your own electrician can fit it, or we arrange one on request. Settle where before the ceiling is closed: if it has to be opened, closed and repainted later, that is charged on top. Where no power point can go in, a battery motor is available for curtains; ask us whether it suits your window.
- Ceiling: a motor and a lined curtain load the track. In a gypsum ceiling, we drill the board and set gypsum plugs, then fix the brackets and the track.
- Renting: under Dubai Law No. 26 of 2007, a tenant needs the landlord's permission before changes (Article 19). The flat goes back as it was found (Article 21), as Khaleej Times explains. Your contract may allow drilling if you fill the holes when you leave. This is information, not legal advice.
- The building: we arrange what the tower asks of us as the contractor for fitting day. Any NOC it needs from you, as owner or tenant, you request yourself and pass on to us.
Choose the fabric, heading and a sheer on a second track as for the rest of our curtains. For a bedroom that faces the sunrise, add a blackout lining. For west glass, read how to keep the afternoon heat out. A window above the kitchen hob, or one high up, may suit motorized blinds better.
Bought your curtains or track elsewhere? Our fitting and repair service covers those too.
